
Red dates are popular with Asians and are commonly used in tea, soup and even in desserts. The dried dates are sweet and can even be taken on its own. I brew red date tea once or twice a month to improves body’s “Qi”. Other than improving the “Qi” in our body, below are the benefits of Chinese Red dates.
- Rich source of Iron
Red dates are rich in iron. By increasing iron intake, one can regulate blood flow. Thus, it is beneficial for women to consume red dates during mensural to improve the blood circulation.
- Detoxification
Research has found that the saponins and alkaloids found in red dates have a direct link to detoxifying and eliminate harmful toxin from the body system. Thus, by consuming red dates, it helps to prevent diseases and ease the stress on immune and lymphatic systems.
- Boost Immunity
High in antioxidant content and Vitamin A and Vitamin C, consuming red dates can benefit the immune system in many ways. The antioxidant is able to neutralize free radical. Besides, Vitamin C also stimulates the production of white blood cells. In return, it helps to build up our immune system.

High in fibres, red dates help in improving the digestive process within the body. Consuming red dates can help to prevent constipation and cramps.

Red dates have a soothing nature and can calm the body and mind. Thus, if you are suffering from insomnia, having a red date tea or red date juice will help.
Note: Do consume red date in moderation. Also, red dates can be dangerous for people who are suffering from diabetes as it affects the blood sugar level. Although, Generally, red dates have few side effect. However, if you have an existing health condition, do consult a medical professional.

INGREDIENTS
- 60 grams red dates
- 5 litres water
- 30 grams dried longans, rinsed and drain
- 15 grams goji berries, rinsed and drain. Then soak for 10 minutes
- Rock Sugar to taste
- Pandan Leaves tie into a knot (rinsed and drained) (optional)
METHOD
- Cut red dates into half and soak in water for 20 minutes.
- Transfer red dates with the soaking water into a pot with 1.5l of water. Add in dried Longan and Pandan Leaves. Cover the pot, bring to a boil.
- Continue to simmer for 40 minutes.
- Add in the goji berries and simmer for another 5 minutes.
- Add Sugar and simmer for another 5 minutes
Serve hot, warm, at room temperature or cold. Best consume during winter or cold weather. Do not over consume red date longan tea as it is consider as heaty.
